Mexico’s fourth largest stadium is the first major stadium with a total wastewater treatment and reuse system.

Project Description

With a seating capacity of 49,850, Omnilife Stadium is Mexico’s fourth largest stadium. It is also the first major stadium with a total wastewater treatment and reuse system. Approximately 136,000 gallons (515 cubic meters) of wastewater is collected from the stadium during each game. Wastewater is equalized and metered out at 30,400 gallons per day into an onsite treatment system. The unique treatment system, designed by Biohabitats, utilizes trickling filters, constructed wetlands, and sand filters to purify the water. Treated water is disinfected before being utilized in the stadium for toilet flushing, irrigation, and stadium washdown.
