An energy and research center in a rapidly expanding region of the Arabian Peninsula applies integrated water strategies to address stormwater, wastewater, water supply, and water reuse needs.
Project Description
The King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) is located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia’s capital and largest city. Riyadh, located in the center of the Arabian Peninsula on a large plateau, has experienced very high rates of population growth, from 150,000 inhabitants in the 1960s to approximately five million people today. The project is located on 200 hectares between the outskirts of Riyadh and King Khalid International Airport (KKIA), just north of the proposed Princess Nora Bint Adulrahman University. The project is divided into two zones: 1) a "Competition Zone" which will house an energy and environmental research complex, and 2) a mixed use, but primarily residential development.
As a key member of a master planning team led by HOK, Biohabitats helped develop integrated water systems including water supply, stormwater, wastewater, and water reuse systems for the KAPSARC. The senior engineering staff at Biohabitats worked closely with the HOK team to provide the best possible solutions for sustainable water infrastructure.
