Thorough wetland evaluations help protect urban wetlands while enhancing the visitor experience and opportunities to experience nature in the Bronx Zoo.

Project Description

Given its conservation mission and its location along the Bronx River, the Bronx Zoo maintains a strong commitment to protecting and improving local ecology. When the Wildlife Conservation Society, which operates the Zoo, wanted to install a zip line to provide visitors with an up-close, nature experience in the tree canopy, they wanted to be sure there would be no negative environmental impacts.

In order to ensure that riparian wetlands would be protected in the design and construction of the zoo’s treetop feature, Biohabitats performed a wetland delineation on the 20-acre site. The project included delineating and surveying the wetlands in accordance with the 1987 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual. Biohabitats also prepared the Jurisdictional Determination.
