Meet Water Resources Engineer Chaya Wilks

Chaya is originally from:

Cleveland, OH

Favorite ecosystem:

First and foremost I love anything with beach vibes but I am also awed by rainforests and how complex they are especially how the tops of trees create their own unique layer of the ecosystem where specific organisms thrive.

Favorite thing to do when not working:

Biking with friends, I am a member of Bike Cleveland which is an advocacy organization. I lead and support group rides for the community but I also enjoy doing longer distance rides on trails.

Pets:

Just some rescue goldfish.

Most memorable experience in nature:

Being on my brother’s sailboat in a reservoir talking about the color of the water and how we might just expect it to be clear but how the brown-green color we saw was actually a sign of a complicated ecosystem within. I always think back to this memory when people ask how I became interested in water resources engineering.

Favorite food to eat or make:

Spanish rice and beans – my grandmother’s recipe.
