Meet Arborist/Restoration Ecologist Bryan Coppede

Arborist/Restoration Ecologist Bryan Coppede.

Bryan is originally from:

New Jersey, however, I most recently lived in Brooklyn, NY (2011-2023), with a year in Davis, California in 2019.

Favorite ecosystem and plant:

My favorite ecosystem is a redwood forest, and my favorite plant is a redwood tree. I have been visiting redwood forests on frequent trips to California for almost a decade and a half, and still love them.

Favorite thing to do when not working:

Spend time with my family, rock climb when weather permits (or if I have time to go to the local rock climbing gym), and read.

Favorite book:

Favorite book is A Sand County Almanac.

Music that instantly puts Bryan in a good mood:

The opening notes of John Coltrane’s “A Love Supreme” album, or “That’s the Way” by Led Zeppelin.

If Bryan could be a superhero, his superpower would be:

Magically get people to understand and support the benefits of prescribed fire on the landscape.

Special skills or passions that people may not be aware of:

I love to participate in prescribed burns. I am a Certified Prescribed Burn Manager in Virginia, and have three seasons of experience working on prescribed burns. I hope to continue volunteering on firelines in some capacity.

I had a prior career as a professional photographer, and my favorite project was photographing grape harvest for a winery client in Napa Valley, CA.

Most memorable experience in nature:

Seeing Yosemite Valley in person for the first time. Jaw dropping and absolutely awe inspiring. I had the pleasure of paying that forward a few months ago when I took a friend there for the first time, and got to see his reaction when we entered the Valley.

Favorite food to eat or make:
I recently learned to make pasta from scratch and have happily gone down that rabbit hole.

Let’s talk.
