On a team led by Moffat & Nichol, Biohabitats assisted The Nature Conservancy with the design of shoreline protection measures and habitat enhancements for two vulnerable areas as part of the larger Perdido Watershed Initiative, which aims to improve ecosystem and community resilience in the Perdido watershed across Alabama and Florida.
Biohabitats performed sediment budget studies, completed hydrodynamic modeling, and evaluated areas of impact before developing designs for the restoration of the wetland drainage ditch to restore the wetland hydrology of portions of Tarklin Bayou. At Florida’s 885-acre Bronson Field, Biohabitats designed ~1-mile of hydrologic reconnection to help restore the natural hydrologic regime and enhanced access to the site.
Both protected shorelines will improve the long-term sustainability of the sites and the Perdido Bay Watershed while helping at-risk species that rely on healthy coastal habitats.
