Coyote Creek State Park is nestled in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains along the meandering banks of the stream. Located south of Taos, the park is enclosed by a forest of spruce and pine, the small valley displays abundant wildflowers and beautiful fall foliage. The 462-acre park sits at an elevation of 7,667 feet and offers a visitor center, camping and amenities, fishing, and hiking and birding along a 2-mile trail.
Demand for outdoor recreation has driven the addition of new amenities. This includes upgrades to the existing water supply system. Biohabitats assessed the existing spring-fed system and has completed engineering design and permitting for the public water supply system, including installation of a new groundwater well and treatment and pressurization. Biohabitats is also assisting with NEPA documentation for the NPS and mapping the site in GIS with existing overlays for new buildings, circulation, and infrastructure for the environmental clearance process with the US Fish and Wildlife Service. The project includes site assessments, wetland delineations, and consultation with associated agencies — NPS, USFWS, USACE — on behalf of NM EMNRD.
