AirPark Columbus College Campus is home to four institutions; the Community Education Center, Ivy Tech Community College, Indiana University at Columbus and Purdue Polytechnic Institute, located on approximately 80 acres north of Columbus, Indiana. Renovation of a twelve-acre area in the southwestern corner of the campus included open space areas for walking and other outdoor activities and presented the opportunity to establish prairie or native meadow habitat.
Biohabitats was retained by GGN to consult on the design, specifications and implementation of the native meadow areas, showcasing the region’s native prairie species and providing valuable habitat for wildlife. Biohabitats provided the expertise for selecting the seed mixes for short and tall prairie vegetation, soil salvage and stockpiling, planting soil specifications, methods of sowing seed, site stabilization, and weed control.
